Photo Project: Iceland

Below are images that I photographed while my wife and I traveled along the coast of Iceland. It’s a magical and primitive island, with soulful happy people and endless jagged scenery that feeds into a thousand waterfalls and spills out into the surrounding seas. I was so moved by Iceland that, long after I returned home, I still felt tethered to the Tolkien world of contrasts and decided to turn the travel images into large gallery prints, as well as a book. My test version of the book was printed, but I’m already working on refining it. As they say, that story will be for another time.

One and done

Sample pages of the 48-page test book I made. Since this printing, I have found another source that can make a small run of books at 15x10 inches. That size will have the gravitas of a true art book. Complete with finishing techniques like foil stamping, thick chipboard covers, four-color end leafs, French folds, and gilded ends. This time, I want to include more stories, sketches, and Icelandic poems to help express the profound and immersive experience of traveling 10 days around the contrasting land of this special, magical island.
