NYU Langone Medical Center
NYU Langone Medical Center is one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers. Their mission is to serve, teach, and discover. This is achieved daily through an integrated academic culture devoted to excellence in patient care, education, and research.
This annual report for NYU Langone Medical Center was designed to be elegant, tactile, and very special. The book is data-rich, with large text making the report skimmable and accessible for any audience—whether donors, recruits, key employees, or Board members. The cover was wrapped by a rubbery coated paper called Curious Touch, and enhanced by a glossy silkscreened type treatment. The photography was shot in black-and-white in real time to capture what was happening at any given moment and the style was intentionally journalistic. All of the hero-sized images were scanned and separated for tritone printing with a high-contrast short black for additional visual impact.
Within the book’s remarkable story, there are many touch points and hierarchies, including a 168-year timeline, oversized graphs, typographic data points, and heartfelt patient stories. On the opening page of the annual is a small, understated line, that confidently states, “It was a remarkable year.” It sure was.
