White Plains Hospital
White Plains Hospital is a leading healthcare provider in Westchester County and home to many renowned programs and services. The hospital offers much of the technology and specialty care usually found at large teaching hospitals, and they combine that with compassionate care close to home.
To commemorate their 125th anniversary, White Plains Hospital asked us to design a pictorial history book of the Hospital that was to be a memorable keepsake. After almost three years of planning and design, 2000 copies of the Hospital’s oversized, 148-page book were printed, bound, and delivered in the fall of 2018. A limited run of 650 linen slipcases were hand finished with a tipped-on printed image of the Hospital’s original entryway bas relief created in 1939.
Rather than the 125th book be purely chronological, it was divided into five key sections: Bricks and Mortar, Physicians and Surgeons, Nursing, Innovation, and Community. Within those chapters the book was chronological, creating an ebb and flow to the Hospital’s rich historic content.
In addition to the linen slipcases, the printing and finishing of the bespoke book included a cloth cover with debossing, foil stamping, endleaf printing, vellum pages, metallic inks, smyth sewing, and a dark blue ribbon bound into the 125th as a bookmark.
The meticulously crafted books were printed and finished by one of the top family-run printers in North America, Blanchette Press, and received a gold printing award from Sappi North America as their Printer of the Year.
